DOLE provides emergency employment to
flooded settlers of Agusan del Sur
Agusan del Sur—Three hundred twenty one (321) barangays from fourteen (14) cities and municipalities were greatly affected by flooding due to incessant rain brought about by the tail end of a cold front last January 18, 2017. This resulted to101, 571 families displaced and were therefore provided with emergency employment by the Department of Labor and Employment- Caraga.
Initial reports from the field officers pointed out damaged infrastructure, agriculture, and disrupted shelters. Roadways were flooded and some sections were impassable due to uprooted trees and other obstructions. After several days of torrential rainfall, the water level finally subsided.
Through DOLE’s TUPAD (Tulong Pangkabuhayan para sa mga Disadvantaged Workers) program in coordination with the Provincial and Municipal Public Employment Service Offices, Local Chief Executives and Barangay Captains, these displaced families have undergone profiling and other related program activities which are regularly updated and monitored.
TUPAD is part of DOLE’s Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program which is a community-based (municipality/barangay) package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed, and unemployed poor, for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days.
